DAS Digital Augmented Surgery: a new project at the forefront of clinical innovation
Personalised, precision and predictive clinical and surgical planning.
The DAS – DESIGN FOR AUGMENTED SURGERY project is part of the activation procedure of the BANDO AGGREGAZIONI R&S – SALUTE, a project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund – Regional Programme Valle d’Aosta ERDF 2021-2027.
The main focus is the medical field, which currently needs to adopt innovative solutions to customise clinical practices in 4P logic (Predictive, Preventive, Participatory, Personalised Medicine) and ‘precision’ surgery (cutting guides, repositioning guides, implants…) in complex anatomies (e.g. Cranio-Maxillofacial (CMF)), realised in additive manufacturing from CT/TAC. In this regard, the DAS project, by exploiting the potential of ‘digital’ 4.0/5.0 (A.I., extended reality, additive manufacturing, …) aims to create an ‘augmented’ ecosystem of interaction between design engineer and surgeon, which extends to maxillofacial operations (traumatology, oncology and malformations). In particular, the objectives of the project are: 1) complete and immersive visualisation of the design process; 2) real interactivity; 3) flexibility of the project allowing rapid and immediate modifications to criticalities during the ‘entire surgical process’, eliminating the risk of non-usability; 4) extendability to rigid bone and soft tissue structures.
